fruits and veggiesHealth and fitness is a billion dollar industry ,so is the fast food industry. At times it feels like we are caught in a food battle and we are loosing…our health and well being. Lack of time, money access to fresh produce, social conditioning and poor habits have many of us running to the store shelves to buy vitamin and mineral supplements. Recent news reports state that researchers believe that the vitamins we buy may not have much effect on our over all health after all. A 2009 article in the Heath section of US News & World Report stated that “Harvard Womens Health Watch consulted two nutrition experts to find out if a supplement-free, nutrient-rich, low-calorie diet is possible to achieve. Their conclusion: yes, with the exception of vitamin D, which is tough to obtain through diet and sun exposure alone (unless you live in the southern latitudes and spend a lot of time outside).” I’ve included a chart below that outlines many of the vitamins we need daily, what they do for us and what foods are laced with them. Please refer to this guide during your next shopping trip and think of ways to incorporate these foods into your diet for a more nutritionally balanced you! Healthy New Year to you!
