Around 6:30pm, Temple University students, professors, and faculty members received a TU Alert confirming yet another suicide occurred on campus. According to the report, Temple Police responded to an incident involving a female student who fatally shot herself on the fourth level of the Liacouras Center garage on North 15th Street. The latest catastrophe is the second self-inflicted gunshot suicide the campus has witnessed this year. Back in February 2012, a Temple graduate returned to campus fatally shooting himself on Liacouras Walk, where dozens of people witnessed the incident.

After receiving the alert, Temple students flocked to social media websites to voice their sadness and condolences.

With the students experiencing high levels of stress, one can’t help but wonder if learning institutions should monitor the amount of work students are assigned. The last thing anyone wants is for college suicide to become trend spreading to various universities.

While Temple has yet to disclose specifics about the suicide, our condolences go out to the student’s family and friends in this time of need.
