Black Music Month originated in 1979. Jimmy Carter proclaimed the month of June as Black Music Month to celebrate the wonderful music, the  achievements, births, important timelines, events and to remember those we lost.

Today we celebrate the birthday of the great Luther Vandross, who would’ve turned 61. This year will mark the 10 year anniversary of his passing on July 1st. In his honor, check out the video of Here and Now performed live at the Royal Albert Hall.

Luther Ronzoni Vandross was an American singer-songwriter and record producer. During his career, Vandross sold over twenty-five million albums and won eight Grammy Awards including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance four times.
