(BLACKAMERICAWEB)  What do you know about go-go? Well, if you hail from the DMV – that’s D.C., Maryland or Virginia – then you know as much about it as you know about crabs, cherry blossoms and Ben’s Chili Bowl.

Go-go, an infectious blend of R&B, funk and hip-hop, is as part of the D.C. social scene as the Obamas. Even if you’re not from D.C., you’ve heard go-go – maybe on the song “Da Butt,” by E.U., another go-go band, or on the Jill Scott song, “It’s Love,” from her first CD, “Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1.”

One of its greatest practitioners is the legendary Chuck Brown, who’s been the leader of the go-go scene for several decades. At 74, Brown’s still making music and performing with the energy of much younger artists.

Scott is a guest on Brown’s latest CD/DVD, “We Got This!” due out this week. She joins Ledisi and Marcus Miller as guest stars on the project, which includes live performances from years of Brown’s go-go dominance.

“Love” is the first single from “We Got This!” and Brown is touring in support of the CD/DVD.

If you live in D.C., you can catch him Friday at 5 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson Plaza for free. If you don’t, here are some upcoming tour dates for the godfather of go-go:
