MTV Networks announced today that a global telethon to aid the relief efforts in Haiti will air simultaneously on Jan. 22 on 11 television and cable networks.

Hosted by George Clooney in Los Angeles, Anderson Cooper in Haiti and Wyclef Jean in New York, the two-hour “Hope for Haiti” telethon will air commercial-free on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT at 7 p.m.

In addition, the telethon feed will be made available to MTV Networks International, CNN International and National Geographic channels across the globe.

Musical performances and celebrity appearances (to be announced) will comprise the bulk of the telethon’s content. All proceeds will be split among five relief organizations currently operating in Haiti: Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Yele Haiti Foundation.

A similar cross-network relief telethon aired in the days following Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of New Orleans in 2005.
