The Mothers of the Movement made a powerful speech during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Philadelphia over the summer, that speech brought you to tears and motivated you to fight for a change even if you did not have any biological children.

The Mothers of the Movement includes Mothers who lost their children due to police-involved incidents.

Some of the Mothers include:

Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin

Lezley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown

Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner

Cleopatra Pendleton-Cowley, mother of Hadiya Pendleton

And Geneva Reed-Veal, mother of Sandra Bland…we had the opportunity to speak with her on Philly Speaks about her support for Hillary Clinton and why voting is so opportunity not just for the Presidential election but for all elections. Sandra Bland was 28 years old when she died in a Texas jail cell in July 2015 after a Texas State Trooper stopped her for a minor traffic offense.

At Bland’s memorial service, Reed-Veal told the crowd that “once I put my baby in the ground, I’m ready… this means war.” And she hasn’t stopped since, speaking nationally on the issues of gun violence especially pertaining to police volience against citizens. She also gave a powerful speech at the newly-formed Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls stating, “I leave you with this: it is time to wake up, get up, step up, or shut up.”

During her interview on Philly Speaks she discussed why she and the other Mothers are supporting Hillary Clinton and how we can support Mothers of the Movement.

“If we stay at home that is actually a vote for the other person…I’m not in Philly playing games”, Geneva Reed-Veal, mother of Sandra Bland.
