Jamaica currently operates with the Queen of England as its head of state. The Queen appoints a representative to be the country’s governor general, instead of holding an election.
However, in a speech by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen Jamaica plans to change its constitution to have a non-executive president as its head of state, making Jamaica a republic and in the process getting rid of the position of governor general.
