A tragic time in Belgian today as bombs exploded at the Brussels airport and one of the city’s metro stations today, killing at least 31 people and wounding dozens, as a European capital was again locked down amid heightened security threats. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

European security officials have been bracing for a major attack for weeks, and was warned that the Islamic State group was actively preparing to strike. The arrest from last week of one of the key suspects in the November attacks in Paris, heightened those fears, as investigators said many more people were involved than originally thought and that some are still on the loose.

President Barack Obama pledged to “do whatever is necessary” to help Belgian authorities seek justice for the more than two dozen people who were killed Tuesday in explosions at the Brussels airport and the subway system.

Unfortunately, the Brussels attacks have led to a higher security presence in the United States, especially at all major transit hubs which includes the Philadelphia International Airport.
