The Dean Collection X BACARDI No Commission Art Fair - Day 3

Russell Simmons began ”correcting” the Academy Awards’ lack of diversity last night with his inaugural All Def Movie Awards.

The event was to “celebrate the uncelebrated” against the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. The last-minute awards were hosted by comedian Tony Rock at Hollywood’s Lure Nightclub.

Host Tony Rock (Chris Rock brother) started the show by stating “This is not a shot at the Oscars.“This is just our awards show done our way. Everything’s better when we add our flavor on it.”

The ceremony awarded Creed with Best Actor and Best Director, thanks to star Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler. Best Picture, meanwhile, went to Straight Outta Compton.

Will Smith, received a Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to him by Tyrese Gibson.

Simmons, says the All Def Movie Awards “are not the black Oscars, but could be,”

Fusion will air the All Def Movie Awards at the same time as the Oscars ceremony Sunday, February 28 at 7 p.m.
