Depression is such a common and complex condition. Many who have it don’t always know how to manage it or how to express how they need to be managed while they are in the midst of it. Sometimes the family and friends of people with depression can unknowingly make the situation worst with their actions, words and even thoughts. People can tell when someone thinks less of them, so even if you think you are spreading words of encouragement, if it’s wrapped in a blanket of disgust/discontent/disrespect then the “encouraging” words have little to no effect.
