On Friday, October 18, our very own Philly Speaks host, Senator Vincent Hughes, took part in an awesome cause to benefit Outward Bound School.

He joined local business leaders, fellow politicians, Philebrities, and youth groups as they rappelled 31 stories down One Logan Square in Center City Philadelphia. The ‘Big Adventure 2013’ fundraiser supports scholarships for programs at the Outward Bound School. The adventurous fundraiser was designed to reflect the school’s innovative youth development mission, as well as encourage young people to step outside their comfort zones and discover what unfolds.

Participants such as Senator Hughes and Mayor Nutter were tasked with raising $2,000 each in order to earn a spot to rappel. Proceeds from this daring event provide local scholarships for students from underserved Philadelphia communities, teens who have suffered tragic losses, as well as support expeditions for Veterans from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Well done, Senator Vincent Hughes!
