As we are approaching a very special holiday in our country, Philly Speaks host, Senator Vincent Hughes appropriately decided to make Sunday, November 10th show about Veterans Day. Veterans Day will be celebrated on Monday, November 11.

Senator Hughes welcomed several special guests to the show to discuss the important topic. First up, Wanda Pate coordinator at the Philadelphia Veterans Advisory Commission. Next we heard from Mr. Lewis Brown, the incredible 91 year old World War II Veteran who went on to receive his Lost DC diploma over sixty years later. He was also joined by his wife. Finally the Senator welcomed Russell Bobo, Leader of the George Cornish VFW Post #292. He’s in charge of leading the Veterans Program scheduled for 11am on Veterans Day at the All Wars Memorial to Colored Soldiers and Sailors.

Before closing the show, Senator Vincent Hughes took a moment to discuss an upcoming event in Philadelphia. The Ivy Legacy Foundation Presents: Philly Men Are Cooking, on Saturday, November 16 at 8pm at The Shops at Liberty Place. He invited event co-chair Quinetta Roberson to speak about it for a moment and encouraged people to attend, as this was something the late E. Steven Collins supported.

Finally, Senator Hughes briefly mentioned the Weekly Spotlight,  American Promise, a movie showing at the Ritz Bourse now through the 14th. The movie is an educational coming of age tale of to African American boys.
