Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton was robbed of some jewelry in April, and on the night of Aug. 19, he apparently thought he saw the person behind the crime walking down a street in southwest Atlanta. And as he drove by in a black Chevrolet Tahoe, he fired shots, say police—except the person he allegedly hit wasn’t his intended target, but a 23-year-old mother of four, reports the Journal-Constitution. Police announced yesterday that Crittenton has been charged with murder; he is believed to be in LA, and police are reportedly working with the FBI to bring him in.
“It appears Mr. Crittenton observed who he thought was the perpetrator walking down the street,” police told the paper. “It so happens Miss Jones was walking down the street at the same time.” Jullian Jones was hit in the leg and later died. Investigators suspect one of the two men who were walking with Jones was actually the target; they both fled after the shooting. It’s the latest legal woe for Crittenton, who was once suspended by the NBA for bringing a gun into the Washington Wizards’ locker room.
