An acoustic guitar and a microphone, this is all that up and coming soul-singer, Seph Ade needs to grab your attention. An acoustic arrangement of traditional yet unique tones, accompanied with smooth vocals set the mood for practically any romantic occasion.
I found Seph Ade through Twitter (All hail twitter), and I was instantly captured. I listened to one song and was blown away by the talent I was witnessing. Understanding that I had no idea who this guy was or what he looked like (his twitter avi at the time was a picture of his album cover), I had to find out more.
After downloading his album, my amazement was well justified. Very few new artists have the ability to make it into someone’s regular rotation, much less be the main focus of it. He immediately went into my CD player in the car and stayed there.
Describing his music is undoubtedly difficult because of the simplicity of it. His songs consist of his voice, occasionally someone else’s, an acoustic guitar, and at times an array of other instruments but never too big. You won’t find a heavily produced Swizz Beats or Timbaland track underneath any of these songs. And I mean that as a huge compliment. What you will find, is the true art of musicianship.
A few songs definitely stand out when you listen to the album, “Good Thing” being one of them. The sultry, smooth, relaxed track featuring Judah Emmanuel, puts you in a state of unrivaled relaxation. The spoken word from Judah Emmanuel is a great addition that gives the song variety and added culture.
“Enough” is a song that may showcase the very essence of the soul of Seph Ade. This smooth and melodic composition highlights the very reason I say his simplicity is what will win you over. “Enough” can really be seen as symbolic for how simple our relationships can be. Just his vocals and an acoustic guitar command your attention for the entire song. That is a rare trait that he possesses in comparison to many R&B artists these days. When you look at how complicated we make things (music and love), it forces us to take a step back and strip it down to its core. We realize that music doesn’t have to be over processed and over produced, and our relationships don’t have to be so complicated. “It’s enough that you’re here with me…” what more could you really want at the end of the day?
“Sweet Lover” is a song that many will enjoy simply because it addresses the age old quest of guy chases the girl. The catchy hook will undoubtedly be stuck in your head for a while.

The album continues and you run into a song titled, “Colors” and again Seph Ade does his thing accounting for the ultimate complexity of all women (yea, I said it). Women have so many different “Colors” and it adds to your glow in our eyes any way. “…I want to give her all the things she wants, but I’m not sure what that is…” with this line, Seph Ade touches home with 90% of men! Let me move on before I go on a rant about the unnecessary complexity of women.
My favorite song on the album is “Encore.” Very different tempo from what you hear on the rest of the album. You may have a hard time understanding the lyrics but Seph Ade explains that the verses and the hooks are two different perspectives. So keep that in mind while your vibin’ out to this one.
The album is solid! If you love TRUE soul music, you will love this man. Seph Ade undoubtedly has what it takes to make it to the next level. Download his music, follow him on twitter (@Seph_Ade), do whatever you need to do now so you can say you knew of him before he blew up.
