Its time to begin class, Hip-Hop 101…we’ll start with introductions, let’s go around the room so each student can introduce themselves…

I find myself in a privileged position; here I sit with a living legend, the woman who didn’t just introduce the Philly airwaves to Hip-Hop but fought for it, the Queen of Hip-Hop: Lady B…or should I say Professor B, a tenured scholar of the Old Skoole and my teacher.

So who am I? A lowly intern or an ignorant freshman at Old Skoole University?

Ummm how about both…sorry Old Skoolers but its true, I don’t know the first thing about the roots of Hip-Hop and I work for Lady B…does that seem wrong to you? Well it does to everyone at 107.9 WRNB.

Naturally Lady B isn’t standing for an intern who doesn’t know about the O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, or Public Enemy, so she kicked me out of the basement party and stuck me at a desk with a record player and a stack of vinyl and said “study baby, you will be tested”

I’m entering a world of blue lights, slow jams, and club bangers as a child and aim to leave a man; a funky, fly, fresh to death man. HOWEVER, Lady B knows it takes a community to raise a child, so she wants YOU to help educate me. TEACH ME PHILLY!

WHAT ARTISTS DO I HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT TO BE A MEMBER OF THE OLD SKOOLE?

Every Monday Lady B will take requests from you, her listening family, for an Old Skoole artist for me to learn about, follow my blog during the week to see what I’ve learned, and listen on Fridays when Professor B gives me my final lesson.
