Philadelphia School Ranks No. 3 In Best Public High Schools in America

Philadelphia’s Julia R. Masterman School has earned a spot among the nation’s top public high schools, ranking No. 3 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.
The Fairmount magnet school moved up five spots from last year, when it ranked No. 8. U.S. News evaluated more than 27,000 schools before ranking approximately 18,000 of them in its annual report. The ranking places Masterman among the strongest public high schools in the country.
Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, claimed the No. 1 spot, while Signature School in Evansville, Indiana, ranked No. 2. Masterman followed at No. 3.
The rankings measure several factors, including student performance on state assessments, graduation rates and college readiness. Those measurements helped Masterman stand out among thousands of schools nationwide.
Masterman’s national recognition also gives Philadelphia another reason to celebrate its public education system. The school has developed a reputation for academic excellence and attracts students from across the city through its selective admissions process.
Another Pennsylvania school also landed among the nation’s best. Downingtown STEM Academy in Chester County ranked No. 19, improving from No. 22 in last year’s rankings. Radnor High School also earned recognition, placing No. 97 among the nation’s best STEM high schools.
However, Masterman stood alone among Pennsylvania schools in the overall national top 100.
The latest ranking highlights the competitive academic environment at Masterman and reinforces the school’s status as one of Philadelphia’s leading educational institutions.
