There’s a new social skills training intervention for young girls coming to Philadelphia in a few months and we are looking to hire “Near Peer Facilitators.”

SIHLE (Sisters Informing Healing Living & Empowering) is a youth centered intervention aimed at reducing HIV sexual risk behaviors among African American females between the ages of 14 and 18. Program: SIHLE Project

Position Title: Near Peer Facilitator

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Co-facilitating SIHLE intervention sessions; attending the Training of Facilitator meeting and other skills building professional development opportunities to ensure fidelity to all SIHLE session content; distributing educational materials and literature at SIHLE intervention sessions; serving as role models for participants; assisting with managing the group process; and encouraging girls’ participation in CTR services and monthly Young Sisters Take Charge events.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma; college degree preferred

Supervisory Relationships:

• Lead Adult Facilitator, Health Promotion and Service Systems

Skills and Knowledge Required:

• Knowledgeable about HIV prevention and services, reproductive health, pregnancy and other relevant issues

• Knowledge of the local social service and health care systems for adolescent girls

• Familiarity with project’s the focus area and population

• Strong group facilitation skills

Prior Experience Required

• Group facilitation experience preferred

• Experience working with the adolescent girls

Personal Qualities:

• Excellent interpersonal communications skills

• Sensitivity to racial, cultural and economic diversity

• Ability to demonstrate cultural competence with diverse populations

• Familiarity with the project’s target area

• Ability to relate well to the SIHLE participants and to understand their culture, experiences and environment

• Be non-judgmental

Compensation: This is a part time position. The Near Peer Facilitator will receive a $75 stipend for each SIHLE intervention session she participates in; a $50 stipend for each project meeting or local training sessions she attends; and $125 per day for attending out of town training sessions or conferences.
