There seems to be an education awareness campaign going on. The last donation given by Oprah’s foundation, the Angel Network, gave $1 million to 6 different schools throughout the country to help continue their developing, but successful schools. The next big donation that will show up on Oprah this Friday is a collaboration between New Jersey’s governor, mayor and Facebook’s CEO/Founder.
Mark Zuckerberg has elected to put $100 million dollars into the schools in Newark, New Jersey. Cory Booker, Newark’s mayor, has proven to be a man of the people. He has beat the country’s pavement to bring help back to his city and came back with serious pay dirt. Booker met Zuckerberg and formed an alliance with republican governor, Chris Christie that has been quite successful.
Not only has the governor agreed to play nice, he’s laid out the red carpet for Booker. According to the New York Times, Christie “plans to give the mayor a major role choosing a new superintendent and redesign the system.” The other amazing detail in the story is that Zuckerberg has no link or affiliation with Newark and this $100 million is simply his initial offering to get the fund started. Kudos to Mayor Booker!
