[Video] Check out El Debarge’s new single “Second Chance”
Fresh off a two year stint in a California prison and still sporting his signature three-octave falsetto, ’80s hitmaker El DeBarge is working on his first album in 15 years.
Having resurrected DeBarge family band hits like “All This Love,” “Time Will Reveal,” “Rhythm of the Night” in a medley at the 2010 BET Award last month, singer-songwriter El DeBarge is hoping to achieve into a successful comeback bid with the aptly-titled Second Chance, his first album since 1994’s Heart, Mind, and Soul.
Due Sept. 28, the album will be El’s first under a new deal with Geffen, and also signals his return to music after several run-ins with the law involving domestic violence and drug abuse. In 2008, the crooner was sentenced to two years behind bars after a bust for drug possession.
DeBarge is co-writing and co-producing songs with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Babyface –who worked on the singer’s last album, according to a scoop from Billboard.com. Tracks slated to appear on the album include. “How Can You Love Me So Much, Girl?,” “Serenading You” and “Switch Up the Formats,” a club anthem featuring 50 Cent.
“There’s music to dance to and make love to, music to cry to,” DeBarge says of his latest effort. “I’m starting from scratch, coming fresh. But my sound still embodies the same soulful, intricate harmonies.”
