Calls For Greene’s Resignation Increase

via: Fox 29

There are calls for the resignation of the head of the Philadelphia Housing Authority.

Carl Greene has been under fire since he failed to pay his mortgage and a series of allegations of sexual harassment surfaced both here in hilly and at his last job in Detroit.

Carl Greene has taken a three week vacation from his $300,000 salaried position to deal with personal issues.

Meanwhile, the Mayor, the Governor and the PHA Board have expressed concern about his ability to continue to lead the PHA.

In fact, Mayor Nutter is calling for a full audit of the PHA and an investigation by HUD.

Now, the head of the city’s top watchdog group, The Committee of Seventy, says it’s time for Carle Greene to hang it up.

Also calling for his resignation is the leader of the Citywide Tenant Action Coalition,

Today, Fox 29’s Dave Schratwieser spoke with Zach Stalberg and Virginia Wilks.

Check out their comments in the attached video report.

Tomorrow, the PHA Board will meet in executive session, followed by a public meeting [Public meeting to be held at PHA Headquarters; 12 S. 23rd Street; 1/2 block from Market St]. They are expected to discuss Carl Greene. Former Mayor John Street sits on that board and has demanded answers.

Dave also spoke with Virginia Wilks about Asia Coney. Coney works for the Tenant Support Services and lives in PHA housing – even though she rakes in $100,000 a year.

Now, according to Federal Housing Rules, this, believe it or not, is perfectly legal. But many are not happy that Ms. Coney pays $654 per month for rent for a PHA home while there are 30,000 poor people on a waiting list for this type of housing.

Wilks said, “If Asia Coney is making a 6-figure salary as is being reported now, then Asia should have done the human thing and moved out of public housing.”
