Serena lost to Simona Halep at Wimbledon. She was in pursuit of her 24th major title. After the loss, a couple legends had quite a but to say about Serena.
Tennis legend John McEnroe:
“Serena Williams has to get herself even fitter because at that level she can be exposed – especially if nerves come in to play. Via Tennis World USA
Tennis Legend Billie Jean King:
If she wants to win titles, if she wants to beat records, that’s the question. I don’t know what she wants. No more Met Galas. Just stop all this insanity because she is trying to be everything. Especially at her age, you have to give up all these peripheral things, if you want to do this. If she is quite happy the way she is then fine. She’s got a baby, she’s trying to help gender equity, particularly women of color. But it makes it much harder. I would like her to put everything else aside, because she’s got people working on those things. I wish she would just make a commitment for the next year-and-a-half to two years and say, I’m going to absolutely focus on what’s necessary for my tennis, so when I look in the mirror when I’m older then I can go back in my mind and know I gave it everything I had.
