As the government shutdown continues, many are asking should there be certain foods that should be avoided, and the answer is really complicated.

Food inspection resumed at the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, but those that went back to work aren’t getting paid.

Food safety attorney Bill Marler says he’d avoid, “anything you aren’t controlling yourself like pre-packaged sandwiches, ready-to-eat salads, or meals that aren’t cooked.”

The FDA stopped regular food safety inspections at the start of the government shutdown on December 22.
