Donald Trump has openly taken a stand against Colin Kaepernick and professional athletes who have chosen to kneel during the national anthem in peaceful protest to bring awareness to social issues. After Nike unveiled it’s 30th anniversary ‘Just Do It’ campaign, Trump again spoke out against Kaepernick. “I think it’s a terrible message that they’re sending and the purpose of them doing it, maybe there’s a reason for them doing it,” Trump said, “But I think as far as sending a message, I think it’s a terrible message and a message that shouldn’t be sent. There’s no reason for it.”
Trump continued, surprisingly, with slight indifference, explaining as an American company, Nike is free to take a stand whether others agree with it or not. “It is what this country is all about, that you have certain freedoms to do things that other people think you shouldn’t do, but I personally am on a different side of it,” he said.
In other Kaepernick news, the National Police Org has sent a letter to Nike CEO, Mark Parker, calling a boycott of all Nike products. Apparently, the organization is offended by Nike’s concept of ‘sacrifice’.
“Dear Chairman Parker,
On behalf of the more than 241,000 law enforcement officers represented by our Association
across the country, I write to you to condemn in the strongest possible terms your selection of
Colin Kaepernick for Nike’s “Just Do It” ad campaign. Mr. Kaepernick is known, not as a
successful athlete, but as a shallow dilettante seeking to gain notoriety by disrespecting the flag
for which so many Americans have fought and died. “
