Patti LaBelle will not attend the funeral of Aretha Franklin but it is not because of the rumored “feud” between the two icons.

This past Thursday evening, Patti was performing at The Dell. During the performance, she stopped to speak to the crowd and tell them that she knew since December that Aretha was ill.

She said that Aretha planned her own memorial service. Aretha’s family told Patti that she was the person Aretha selected to sing at her service. Patti will not be able to attend the service on August 31 so the family asked Patti if she could record her song, You Are My Friend, so they can include it in the service.
