For those who don’t remember or know who the Central Park 5 are, lets refresh our memories.

The Central Park 5 refers to a case in which 5 minors of color were wrongfully accused of brutally raping and beating a woman while she was jogging through the park at night. The 5 young men were arrested, separated, and then went through hours of vigorous interrogations that took place all night, with no lawyers or parents present. The young men were told that if they did not plead guilty and give a confession, they would serve more time than necessary. Young, afraid, and alone each individual gave a different story, none of which matched up to another. The NYPD would take there confessions, guilty plead, and different stories and put lock them up for a crime they did not commit. Later on, DNA testing was done and it was found that none of the young mens DNA matched the one found on the victim of the attack. All five young men still remained in jail.

It would not be until years later that the five young men would be free’d due to the discovery of the actual attacker.
