Marvin Gaye’s Family Wins Appeal in “Blurred Lines” Lawsuit  Against Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke had a certified hit on their hands with 2013’s “Blurred Lines,” but to many listeners they sampled it from Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got To Give It Up.” After serval years a federal appeals court upheld a $5.3 million judg-ment against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams for copying Marvin Gaye’s song to create their 2013 smash “Blurred Lines.”

The court confirmed that Gaye’s estate is entitled to 50% of all royalties from that song forever.
