Puerto Rico was trying to recover from Hurricane Irma when category 4 Hurricane Maria hit. Many homes were blown apart, and some of the roads are still filled with water. In some cities, it was recorded that the winds were going 150-200 miles per hour and the rain brought a record of 35 inches of water. This storm has ruined many of the repairs that were being made from the first hurricane the island has endured this year.
This catastrophic has made a huge impact of the residents of the island.
Puerto Rico’s resident commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón stated, “We are without power, the whole island is without power,” on Moring Edition. We are praying that residents of the island remain safe and that they can recover from this tragedy soon. Here are a few pictures of the storm and its effect on the island.
Singer Jennifer Lopez took to Instagram delivering a passionate message to followers about Hurricane Maria destroying Puerto Rico.
“What’s on my mind is what’s going on in Puerto Rico. The devastation is beyond belief,” said Lopez, who is currently in Las Vegas for her residency show. “Me and my cousin still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there.”
“Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Areizaga,” she shared. “Together we can help rebuild our island, and the Caribbean.”
Jennifer Lopez donated $1 million to Puerto Rico and is encouraging everyone to help if they can.
