Matthew Knowles recently sold a major piece of music history when he sold the historic Rice Mansion. The Rice Mansion formely housed Matthew Knowles’s music company Music World Entertainment in Houston, Texas. The mansion not only housed Knowles’s music company but, was a place where Destiny’s Child first put their names on the map.

The legendary house was originally built by the founders of Rice University in 1910 and was considered as one of Houston’s premiere event, meeting spaces, host to weddings, galas and many more upscale events.

Knowles purchased the place in 2000 as a part of Music World Entertainment. Destiny’s Child recorded Bootylicious and artists such as Solange, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan and many more has been in the Rice Mansion. Knowles announced in June that he was selling the property and decided to move Music World Entertainment’s office to another part of Houston.

Many Houston natives were shocked that Knowles was selling the property. The Rice Mansion is still standing but, the House of Dereon Media Center which was used as event space has been demolished.
