Niecy Nash is showing off her amazing acting skills on TNT’s hit show, “Claws,” and representing African-American women, every Sunday night. Diversity isn’t just in universities and the work force but, also in Hollywood. We are seeing more Black actors and actresses, but the same stories are told.

In an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Netflix show, which started streaming Monday, Nash discussed how far Hollywood has come since the days of mostly “one-note” black female characters.

“There was a point where you knew if you were going out [for a role] it was just gonna be the sassy black dot dot dot — sassy black mama, sassy black neighbor, sassy black friend,” Nash explained.

Handler wasn’t understand Nash’s point and interrupted her with, “But by the way, you are that girl.”

“I’m a lot of girls,” Nash replied.

Nash brought up an important point that just because black women are being represented more on television, doesn’t mean their stories are told best.

We are here for more diversity in Hollywood of course and make sure you tune into Claws’ season finale which airs this Sunday on TNT.
