In February during Work with Karen its Black HER-Story Month where we are celebrating Black History month with #SheFacts of female trailblazers.

Why We Love Her: Today we are honoring the creative, magnificent, choreographer, director, and dancer, a triple threat, Mrs. Debbie Allen. Her creative talent has set the bar remarkably. Leaving her mark on everything she touches to the point viewers know that was all Debbie Allen.

Stats: Born on January 16, 1950, in Houston, Texas. Graduated cum laude in 1971, with a degree in drama from Howard University.

Ladies First: 1980 she starred in a Broadway revival of West Side Story as Anita. Her performance earned her a Tony Award nomination. Played a dance instructor in 1980’s Fame, which won several Academy Awards, Fame evolved into a successful television spin-off in 1982, in which Allen also co-starred and won three Emmy’s for Choreography. Won a Tony award for Sweet Charity.  Direct The Cosby Show spin off, A Different World, and boosted the show to the top of the ratings.

Impact: Becoming a honorary doctorate from the North Carolina School of the Arts, earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Women in Radio and Television; Debbie Allen leaves another mark as she opened the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles, California.
