Why We Love Her: Today we are honoring the beautifully talented Billie Holiday. She was a Jazz Singer and her voice captivated many which is still recognized until this day. Billie Holiday remains a major star in the jazz world as well as popular music. She will always be considered as one of the best jazz vocalist of all time.
Stats: Born Eleanora Fagan on April 7, 1915, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died on July 17, 1959 in New York City, NY. Discovered by John Hammond at the age of 18.
Ladies First: Considered the best Jazz vocalist of all time. Known for her most famous songs God Bless the Child and Strange Fruit.
Impact: Holiday influenced many other performers who have followed in her footsteps. Her autobiography was made in 1972 film Lady Sings the Blues with famed singer Diana Ross playing the part of Holiday helped renew interest in Holiday’s recordings.
