Chipotle

Poor Chipotle just can’t shy away from bad press.

Mark Crumpacker, Chipotle’s chief creative and development officer, was recently indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office in a massive cocaine bust, according to the New York Daily News. Several arrests were made following a lengthy investigation into a drug-selling ring on the New York City’s Lower East Side that sold thousands of dollars worth of cocaine.

The undercover operation was prompted after investment banker Thomas Hughes committed suicide by jumping off the roof of his high-rise apartment building in lower Manhattan. Police found cocaine and recent calls made to his drug dealer.

From there, detectives were led to Crumpacker and a string of other well-to-do professionals involved in the drug ring including: Mornings with Maria on Fox Business producer Katie WelnhoferHuffington Post blogger Alexander Mallory, Cushman & Wakefield associate Austin Dodson and several others.

A spokesperson for Chipotle did not return a request for comment to the press, but did issue a statement confirming Crumpacker is currently on administrative leave. “We made this decision in order to remain focused on the operation of our business, and to allow Mark to focus on these personal matters. Mark’s responsibilities have been assigned to other senior managers in his absence,” the company told Fortune.

Crumpacker is one of Chipotle’s highest paid executives, having played a key part in designing the company’s logo and guiding the burrito chain’s PR recovery from their 2015 food safety scandal.

More details to come as the story develops.
