The talent of Oscar award winning actress Halle Berry has seemingly been overshadowed by her failed relationships including her most recent divorce from her third husband, Olivier Martinez.
The “Extant” star has continuously been villainized in the media for her inability to “keep a man”. She hasn’t really spoke out about the situation beyond saying, “I’m doing okay, I really am. I keep pushing and I’m really happy to be here because whenever you’re going through anything in life, when you step outside yourself and focus on others, that’s always the best remedy for any situation that you’d rather not be dealing with.”
She’s now gone into more detail in regards to what she’s learned about herself from her past relationships. While in attendance at the Student African American Brotherhood conference (SAAB), Halle challenged the young attendees to step up and do better.
“As women, we need our men to stand up and be men,” said Halle to the group of mostly college students. “Take care of us and serve us. When you do that, we will fall over and bow at your feet. But you have to start it, because God made you first.”
Halle said she was initially in her feelings following her divorce from Olivier but she now has a clearer head and she doesn’t blame herself for the breakup.
“I was feeling really down because I filed my third divorce. I thought, ‘I can’t get it right.’ I was feeling heavy-hearted, embarrassed and ashamed. I thought, ‘Surely it’s my fault. I need help. This is not where I want to be. I should be somebody’s wife. I wanted to be a wife and mother…But I was three times divorced with two baby daddies and I don’t even know how this happened.”
The 49-year-old mother of two has come to the new revelation, “I looked at the part that I played and looked at the part the men I had married played. I had chosen boys. I wanted to do grown up things, but I was not with a grown up.”
“I was choosing from a superficial place. I became a monster. I was head banging mad, because it was not working. Here, I am a woman, trying to be married to a boy.”
