The Children’s Hospital of Philadephia/CHOP

Zion Harvey might be one of most courageous people we have ever covered. When Zion was two years old, he lost both his hands to a life-threatening bacterial infection. Most kids couldn’t handle such a drastic change to their lives, but Zion’s spirit was never broken.

CHOP performed the first ever Double Hand Transplant Surgery for a child on Zion, finally giving him the chance to live his dream of one day “climbing the monkey bars.” The 10-hour surgery, which demanded a surgical team of 40 people, couldn’t have made Zion’s mother happier.
