It made my heart smile when I heard about 7-year-old Natalie McGriff, a Florida girl who created a comic book, titled “The Adventures of Moxie Girl,” which is about a young black superhero named “Moxie Girl”, who gets her superpowers after her grandmother gives her a magical shampoo. With her new powers, Moxie sets out to save her local library from destruction.

The inspiration for the comic book came from Natalie when she told her mother that she hated reading and her natural hair. From there, her mother set out to change her daughter’s perception on her image and future by working with Natalie to create “The Adventures of Moxie Girl.”

The mothers’ goal was to boost her daughters’ self-esteem and plant a love of reading in her. With her achievement, Natalie is looking towards spreading her positive hair imagery and message to young Black girls everywhere with plans to publish her comic book this summer.

Make sure y’all keep an eye out for this cute and positive comic book by little Natalie.  I think every young black girl should have their own copy of “The Adventures of Moxie Girl”, I want to buy all the little divas in my life their own copies too! This is a great way to teach our young queens early in the game to love the skin they’re in!
