The Philadelphia School Reform Commission has announced that they are canceling its contract with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers.  As stated in the article by WPVI-TV, the School Reform Commissions decision comes after “21 months of negotiations with no resolution.”

This change will take effect December 15th of this year in which the teachers will have to pay $27-$71 from each paycheck toward healthcare.

The school district said this is the best option, rather then cutting the wages of the 15,000 teachers, counselors, nurses and other union members. The school district said the change will save them $54 million this year and $70 million a year in the future.
