PETA Goes After Michelle Obama on Easter Egg Roll

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, more fondly known as PETA, is targeting first lady Michelle Obama in a new YouTube video, pleading with her to end the tradition of using real eggs in the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

In the 80-second video, titled “Michelle Obama, We Need to Talk!” three preteen girls tell the first lady how “disappointed” they are with the use of real eggs and how much “better than this” she is. Read more.

Study Shows Startling Race Gap in Exposure to Air Pollution

A new study by researchers at the University of Minnesota have uncovered a disquieting racial gap when it comes to exposure to air pollution, the MinnPost reports.

Examining air-pollution exposure across racial, economic, educational and other relevant categories, researchers realized that race and income had the greatest impact on exposure, with people of color being exposed to 38 percent more outdoor nitrogen oxide from vehicle exhaust and power plants than their white counterparts. Exposure has been linked to higher rates of asthma and heart disease. Read more.

Long Island High School Students Indefinitely Suspended for Wearing Confederate Flag

Two seniors at a private Catholic high school in South Huntington, N.Y., were indefinitely suspended for wearing a Confederate flag draped around their shoulders, CBS New York reports. Basil Paterson, NYC political leader and father of ex-governor David Paterson, dead at 87

Basil Paterson, a longtime New York political powerhouse and the father of former Gov. David Paterson, has died, his family said Thursday. He was 87. Paterson died at 10 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to a family statement that did not give the cause of death. He would have turned 88 on April 27. Read more.

Hero Alert: Darnell Taylor Saves Family After Mother Purposely Drives Into River

A New Jersey man is being called a hero today for pulling three teens from the Delaware River after their mother allegedly tried to kill them.

Darnell Taylor was heading to dinner with his wife when he noticed a van sticking out of the river and people trapped inside. Taylor is grieving the loss of his father who succumbed to cancer on Wednesday morning, but still sprang into action to rescue the family without any regard for his own safety. Read more.
