Dr. Maya Angelou, a living legend among us, has delivered a powerful, gripping tribute to Nelson Mandela on behalf of the American people.

Released by the U.S. State Department, Angelou speaks about the “heart of Africa” walking out the prison’s door and feeling the “cool winds of freedom” all the way in America. She speaks of love, revolution. Peace.

It is truly a fitting tribute—from one legend to another.

See it below:

We love you, Madiba.

On Sunday December 15, 2013 Philly Speaks will pay tribute to South Africa’s First Black President, Nelson Mandela. Nelson passed away Thursday December 5, 2013 in Africa surrounded by family. With so many people in Mandela’s life he could call a friend; Philly Speaks called upon those that impacted our lives as much as Mandela. Sunday, we are honored to welcome to the studio via phone the remarkable author and poet, Dr. Maya Angelou. You won’t want to miss this show!
