The 2013 Marian Anderson Award will be given to Motown founder, Berry Gordy, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Major performers such as Smokey Robinson, Boyz II Men, Kool & The Gang, Chris Tucker, Cody Wise, Brandon Victor Dixon (who portrays Berry Gordy in Motown the Musical on Broadway) Philly producers/songwriters, Kenny Gamble and Leon A. Huff, as well as musical director Bill Jolly, will pay musical tributes to the iconic philanthropist and music legend.

Marian Anderson Award board chair, Pamela Browner-White spoke with Soulful Sunday’s Derrick and Dyana about honoring Gordy and former governor, Ed Rendell, (who helped to establish the Marian Anderson Award 15 years ago.) Others who have been honored over the years, have included Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, Bill Cosby and James Earl Jones, among others. Comedian/actor, Chris Tucker will host along with own Dyana Williams will serve as the mistress of ceremonies. Pat Moran is the executive producer of the Award gala. This is one of the premier cultural events of Philadelphia’s social calendar.
