If you meet someone who lives hours away, should you give it a shot?
Relationships are hard enough as it is, and when distance is added it gets more complicated. While many people think long distance can’t work because you don’t see the person as much as you’d like, the relationship can work depending on the people.
Whether you get to see the person you’re with a few times a week or a once a month, communication is important in any relationship. In a long distance relationship, communication is key. Since seeing each other in person is something that can’t always happen, the alternatives of texting, emailing, talking on the phone can help make up for some of it.

Long distance can work well, if there is a known end to the distance. If the couple is apart because someone is working in another city or state for a period of time, it’s easier for it to work because the physical distance has an end date.
In order for a long distance relationship to work, there needs to be trust. If the couple is constantly worrying about if there is cheating going on, or what happens when they aren’t together, it can’t work. Jealousy or fear of cheating can quickly end things.
Although long distance often seems like something that should be the last option, communication and the expectations from the relationship determine its success. If both people are on the same page with what they want and how often they should talk, the relationship can stay strong.
Ultimately, the success or end of a long distance relationship is up to the couple and how they navigate it.
