The Dental Hygiene program at Harcum College will conduct Sealant Saturday, a morning of free oral examinations, sealants, fluoride treatments and health care instructions for children ages 6-13 on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 8:30am – Noon.

Exams and treatment will be conducted in the Cohen Dental Clinic on the Harcum campus by Harcum dental hygiene students and faculty, registered dental hygienists, area dentists and the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienist’s Association

An estimated 100 million Americans have no dental insurance, and the percentage of Americans with untreated cavities is rising for the first time in a half-century. Forty percent of Pennsylvanians lack dental insurance. Oral health problems are linked to a variety of diseases and health problems. Recent dental research shows that the use of sealants can decrease oral health complications, especially for cavity-prone children. Children face a greater degree of tooth decay for a variety of reasons, ranging from diet to lack of dental care.

Harcum College’s Dental Hygiene program offers this free service to educate the public and improve oral health.
