Radio One has announced that its Urban Adult Contemporary station, WRNB, will begin broadcasting on the frequency of 100.3 FM beginning Thursday, September 1st. WRNB’s home for the past 6 years has been 107.9 FM.
Radio One Regional Vice President, Bruce Demps states, “Moving WRNB from 107.9 to 100.3 will be an increased opportunity to engage more adult contemporary listeners, and ultimately allow us to deliver more value for our clients. I am excited to lead the charge with our amazing team at Radio One Philadelphia.”
WRNB has consistently received some of its best ratings in the past year and a half anchored by The Tom Joyner Morning Show. According to WRNB Operations Manager, Elroy Smith, the product is refined, focused, and is performing well in a very competitive market. Smith states, “the move to 100.3 will expand the coverage area of the station, and allow WRNB to have an even greater impact in Philadelphia.”
WRNB is known for its passionate commitment to the community with signature events like “Back to School,” which garners over 30,000 parents and students annually in conjunction with the School District of Philadelphia, and “Take a Loved One to the Doctor.” Recently WRNB supported a town hall meeting with parents and city officials to address the increasing concerns of the flash mobs plaguing the city.
WRNB is the Urban Station in Philadelphia that also brings out the fun in adults. WRNB hosted “Philly’s Largest Line Dance” on the Art Museum steps where over 3,000 people danced the electric slide. This past weekend, WRNB and the City of Philadelphia honored their afternoon drive legend “Lady B” for her (30) years as a pioneer in the world of Hip-Hop and in the community with a sold-out celebration and a surprise appearance by superstar Will Smith, who is grateful to Lady B for being instrumental in launching his musical career.
Director of Sales, Cassandra Banko, expresses her anticipation over the move in this way, “Throughout my 20 years in the Philadelphia Radio Market, I have never been as excited, and as proud of the changes that are currently happening with WRNB. The fact is, now more of our listening area will be able to fully experience the great music, personalities, and community involvement of WRNB. All of this will be of great value to our growing client base.”
Something new, fresh, and exciting will be announced soon regarding 107.9.
