Beyonce’s “Best Thing I Never Had” will serve as the second single off her upcoming album, “4.” The midtempo, piano-driven track pours out like a sarcastic, thank you letter to a lover she’s grateful for no longer having in her life.
The vengeful lyrics start off as a tale of karma (“what goes around, comes around”), but they end in gratitude:
“You showed your ass and I saw the real you / Thank God you blew it, I thank God I dodged a bullet / I’m so over you, so baby good looking out…you turned about to be the best thing I never had…it sucks to be you right now.”
In case you’re wondering, “1+1,” Beyonce’s recently-released ballad was not set to be a single, just an album cut that was released exclusively to iTunes for the “American Idol” performance.
