*First Lady Michelle Obama’s office is denying claims in a new book that she allegedly told her French counterpart Carla Bruni that life in the White House is “hell.”

The unauthorized tell-all about Bruni, titled “Carla and the Ambitious,” says Mrs. Sarkozy asked Mrs. Obama what life was like for her since her husband, Barack Obama, won the U.S. presidency.

“Don’t ask. It’s hell. I can’t stand it,” Bruni claims Mrs. Obama responded, according to the book.

Not only is the White House strongly denying the quote, but a spokesman for France’s embassy in Washington says Sarkozy is also claiming to have never stated it.

“Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy distances herself completely from the content of the book ‘Carla and the Ambitious,’ which was not authorized and the authors alone are responsible for its contents,” says Emmanuel Lenain, the embassy spokesman. “The words attributed to the First Lady of the United States were never said.”

Meanwhile, CNN’s Ed Henry just tweeted that the White House also strongly denies that Mrs. Obama ever made the comment.

“Mrs. Obama’s spokeswoman, Catherine McCormick-Lelyveld, tells CNN: ‘The First Lady never said that.’” Henry posted on Twitter this afternoon.

The publisher of “Carla and the Ambitious” lists the authors as Michael Darmon and Yves Derai “in collaboration with Miss Bruni,” and claims the First Lady quote attributed to Bruni occurred during a visit to the White House by the French first couple last March.
