Atlantic City has been a city in need of family fun, maybe a highly expensive waterpark will satisfy that need.
Philadelphia developer, Tower Investments Inc., has started construction on a $100 million indoor water park on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Tower Investments Inc. The development company has managed and built structures like The Inquirer Building in Logan Square, and luxury residential areas, The Piazza in Northern Liberties and Tower Place on North Broad Street.
Some of these buildings do feature hi-rise pools, but this waterpark is on a whole different level.
The 103,000-square-foot indoor waterpark will be called the Island Waterpark. Atlantic City’s new waterpark will feature water slides, pools, a lazy river, food and beverage outlets, retails space, lounge areas, and a party room. There’s also going to be a section for the adults that will feature a bevy of alcoholic beverages and amenities, including foot massages and manicures.
Founder and CEO Bart Blatstein believes the investment is worth it, he confidently said “This water park is going to crush it,” during the park’s introductory ceremony on Wednesday. According to Atlantic City’s development history, a waterpark has always been proposed to city council and then not actually come to fruition.
Blatstein doesn’t believe that will be the case for his waterpark.
We’ve all heard stories of water parks coming here to Atlantic City and for whatever reason, it didn’t happen, this is happening.
How do I know it’s going to happen? Because I say so. It’s my money going into this place. I promise you, it’s going to happen.
Island Waterpark is supposed to be built and ready to go, Memorial Day weekend 2023. A 20-year state tax incentive is going to help finance the project. The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority approved the designation of the project as an entertainment retail district, which entitles it to an annual rebate of as much as $2.5 million in sales tax generated by it for 20 years.
Clearly there is a lot of money being distributed into this massive waterpark. Atlantic City is famously known for the adults with its gambling scene, hopefully this family attraction will bring a different vibe to the city.
