On why he wrote the book:
This is my contribution to the conversation of what it means to be a man today. How do we understand what the word of God has to say but also I tell it through the stories of men in our church through my own journey of martial arts and sports. The stories are all rooted in my experiences with the Navy Seals, etc.
In the book he discusses men and handling death
How do you get up the day after you bury your child and still keep going? If your husband dies you are a widow. If your wife dies you are widower. If your parents die you are an orphan when your child dies there’s no language for it. We don’t even have a word for it, its so unnatural. There are men in this book that talk about what its like to still live and invest [in life] after that.

Rev Waller on his own personal journey with addiction
I want to talk about addiction and talk about it for real and not just pre-Christ. I am talking about as me being Rev. Waller wrestling with that and the shame that at times I have felt about that but also the victory I have.. want men to come out of the shadows on addiction.
