J. Prince is legendary in the music business. He “thought” he signed Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice was in Houston and J. Prince left the closing of the deal to his business partner. When he heard Ice Ice Baby on the radio he thought Vanilla Ice was his artist and he later found out he wasn’t. Mathew Knowles approached J. Prince about signing a 9-year old group called Destiny’s Child. J. Prince passed on them as he was focused on the rap side of the music business and Mathew never lets him forget that he passed on them.

He also talks about discipline and how he deals with so many things in the music industry that could be self destructive.

It is important to have discipline and structure in order to not self destruct. I started applying this in a variety of ways. For example, I only eat one time per day; one full meal. I eat fruit and nuts throughout the day. Years ago I read some Muslim literature that really stressed the importance of that to make your flesh submit to discipline in other areas. If you can control the flesh of not wanting to eat  every time the flesh says I want to eat then you gain strength from that so I started there.
