For some, what is the Smithsonian? The Smithsonian is a group of museums and research centers that are funded by the US government for the sole purpose of spreading knowledge. Well, now the Smithsonian is honoring the complex and impactful history of hip-hop. The anthology will aim to catalog the history using a 300-page collection of vintage along with 9 CDs. Huib Schipper the curator and director of the Smithsonian Folkway said the idea of creating a hip-hop anthology stemmed from the opening of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture had opened.
The anthology will include notes, essay, images, and design. The Smithsonian Institute has started a kick-starter campaign to help fund the initiative until November 16.
