9th Annual Sickle Cell Celebrity Bowl a Thon Fundraiser

Music Producer/Songwriter, Developer & Philanthropist, Kenny Gamble along with Gramm Winner, Patti LaBelle and Nate Morris of Boys II Men have joined forces to promote the 20th Anniversary Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run fundraiser sponsored by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter and AFSCME District Council 33. The trio have recorded promotional commercial spots to raise awareness about Sickle Cell and request the residents of the Delaware to participate in the 20th Annual Walk/Run to

Founded in 1998 in memory of our agency co-founder, Walter E. Brandon, this event has served as a platform to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, along with the importance of getting tested. Reverend Brandon lived with sickle cell disease, which influenced his life’s work. Due to his dedication, love and compassion for adults and children living with the illness, the 5K walk/run was named in his honor.

The Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run will feature a morning kick-off program; bell ringing ceremony to remember those who have passed away; 5K walk/run; wellness pavilion; health screenings; community resources/information; children’s activities; award ceremony for top female/ male runners in each age group; music, entertainment and refreshments. The walk will be held at Fairmount Park @ Belmont Avenue & North Concourse Drive, Philadelphia, PA. 19131 (across from the Please Touch Museum) this Saturday September 23.

Registration begins at 7:00 am and the opening ceremony begins at 7:15 am. The walk will officially start at 8:30 am. Registration is $30 per person, including a t-shirt and for children 12 and under registration is $10.
