Common has always had the looks, lyrics and now is racking up on awards. The rapper and actor earned his first Oscar in 2015 for his song with John Legend “Glory.” The song was featured on Ava DuVernay’s film “Selma” and received positive feedback from everyone.

Common recently won his first Emmy for his song “Letters to the Free” which was played in 13th, a Netflix original documentary.

“I want to thank god first and foremost,” Common sad. “Any time I get a chance to work with Ava DuVernay it leads to something positive, something strong.”

Common has been doing great things for his community, the industry and earning awards that he’ll value for a lifetime.

“Her (Ava DuVernay) work has led me to go to prisons in California,” he said, “and talk to the prisoners. I met some of the most humane people ever…I was enlightened in my life in the way that I haven’t been in a long time.”
